In order to become a commissioner of the California State Bar Criminal Law Advisory Commission, the Board of Trustees governing the State Bar of California must appoint the advisors. An advisory commission is appointed for each of the eleven areas of specialization to advise the California Board of Legal Specialization. Each advisory commission meets approximately six times a year.
Appointment to an advisory commission:
To become appointed as an advisory commissioner for one of the eleven areas of specialization, an application must be submitted to the California State Bar Appointment Office. The application is then reviewed by the committee applied to, then forwarded to the California State Bar Board of Trustees for review. The Board of Trustees will make the appointments for each area of specialization.
