Senior Attorney Jason T. Campbell and the California Habeas Handbook

December 1, 2022BACL News, News

Senior attorney Jason T. Campbell is now responsible for the renown California Habeas Handbook originally published by the late Kent Russell, Esq. The California Habeas Handbook provides step-by-step guidance in navigating habeas matters in a way that is easy for anyone to understand.

A writ of habeas corpus is a legal document used in court to determine if a prisoner or detainee’s imprisonment or detainment is lawful.  The court then decides whether the individual is being held unlawfully, ensuring that he or she is not being deprived of his or her constitutional rights. The writ of habeas corpus is appropriate when you are being held in custody without Due Process, but it is imperative to speak with an experienced habeas attorney to determine if habeas corpus is the best course of action in your particular matter.

Prior to Mr. Campbell taking over the California Habeas Handbook, he has worked  for over a decade in representing individuals who are in the most perilous situations. Already convicted, their convictions affirmed on direct appeal, they are, for all intents and purposes, lost to the system, unless and until they can vindicate their rights through the unwieldy and labyrinthine habeas corpus process. Having spent the better part of his career representing clients in habeas corpus, as well as being responsible for the renowned California Habeas Handbook 2.0, Mr. Campbell is dedicated to representing clients in habeas proceedings, in California state and federal courts.
