Thursday, August 23 in to the early morning hours Friday proved to be deadly in Oakland, as a rash of crimes left one person dead. According to Oakland police, a fatal shooting took place around 12:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of 48th Avenue.
On Thursday evening around 9 p.m., the first shooting was reported in which the victim was left with a gunshot wound. The victim, a passenger in a car, was wounded in the 4800 block of Fairfax Avenue and taken to the hospital, where the individual was determined to be in stable condition according to police. As of Friday morning, the suspect in the shooting had not been located.
Approximately an hour and a half later at around 10:30 p.m., multiple people were injured and taken to Highland Hospital following a shooting that occurred in the 1200 block of 32nd Street. News reports state that the victims in this incident had been driving in the West Oakland area and were cut off by a car when the occupant or occupants inside the car began shooting at them. All were listed in stable condition.
The 10100 block of Foothill Boulevard near San Leandro in East Oakland is where a carjacking took place at around 10:50 p.m. Police said that an armed suspect approached the victim and demanded the car; the victim complied with the suspect’s demands and was not injured.
In the early morning hours on Friday, two brothers were involved in a physical fight in the 1500 block of 27th Avenue, although both suffered only minor injuries in the altercation.
At the time of publication of news reports, the name of the victim who was fatally injured had not been released.
